FORT HALL — Shoshone-Bannock Tribal Health Education Manager, Rebecca Washakie brought COVID-19 awareness and training to Tribal Election clerks and observers for the June 26 Primary Election.
Clerks and observers were given a demonstration June 25 on how to wear and dispose of gloves and masks, and were also informed about COVID-19 facts and how to stay protected.
Voting staff members were required to wear masks and have their temperature taken. Election Board member, Angela Diaz went over some of guidelines, she advised there will be hand sanitizer provided for voters when they enter and exit. No children or anyone who isn’t there to vote was allowed inside. Voters had to follow the six feet of social distancing, and must have identification. Voters will not have their temperatures taken, or be able to use the restroom. Masks are highly recommended.
Diaz also said the busiest times were during noon and 5 p.m. The voting staff assisted anyone who couldn’t physically come inside to vote. Overall, the voting staff was trained on how to stay safe during the pandemic while not suppressing tribal voters. The voting staff didn’t want to turn away any voters, as Diaz said, she encouraged people to vote and not suppress them.
