FORT HALL — The Bannock Gathering is scheduled August 9 and 10 in Fort Hall.
The first day activities are at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Events Center starting with an opening prayer at 9 a.m. A welcome follows with Fort Hall Business Council Chairman Devon Boyer, Louise E. Dixey, Cultural Resources Director and Miss Shoshone-Bannock Ontaria Ariwite. A recorded COVID-19 message will be played featuring Bannock language teacher Louida Unger.
At 10:05 a.m. Forrest Broncho will do a presentation on the Bannock flag that he helped create. Velda Racehorse follows with a PowerPoint presentation on Bannock Chiefs.
At 11:10 a.m. Bannock language apprentice Dillin Diggie will speak about creating a digital archive – Bannock story and English translation.
After lunch at 1:15 is a recording of Floyvan Coby speaking on Tosa Kovi.
Afterward language instructors Zelphia Towersap, Daisy Dixey and Louida Unger will talk about the Bannock language. Classes have been conducted on Zoom so Bannock language students will introduce themselves in the language.
From 3 to 4 p.m. is a presentation on preparing toishuvui (chokecherries). From 4 to 4:30 p.m. is Bannock Jeopardy.
Tuesday, August 10: 6:15 a.m. Tavatsivui Nanisutehaiva (sunrise ceremony) at Fort Hall Bottoms with Nelson Racehorse.
The Bannock Warrior Challenge begins at 8 a.m. at Tinno Bridge. Participants use watercraft in Spring Creek to Sheepskin Road, go from there on bike to Stock Trail Road. They get on horse bareback ride to the Indoor Arena. From there they run to the Festival grounds.
Awards presentation is at 1 p.m.
