FORT HALL — Shoshone-Bannock tribal members are advised starting January 1, 2019, the U.S. Postal System will no longer deliver to reservation addresses with rural route addresses.
The Postal System will only deliver to physical addresses that the Public Safety Department assigned.
The Fort Hall Business Council approved the assigning of rural addresses for all structures on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation on February 2, 2016.
FHBC Chairman Nathan Small said in a memo rural addressing system was implemented as an effective and efficient method to improve emergency response times, along with provide goods and services commonly enjoyed throughout the U.S. The assigning of physical addresses allows for the delivery of goods and services by vendors to include receipt of mail.
A physical address is also a requirement in issuing commercial drivers licenses through the Department of Motor Vehicles.
All Fort Hall Indian Reservation residents are requested to go to their assigned post office and complete a change of address form to ensure mail delivery continues. Tribal members should also contact the Tribal Enrollment office to update addresses to continue to receive tribal notices and information.
People can still use post office boxes for mail delivery.
