FORT HALL — During the October 2 Supervisor’s Meeting, the Fish & Game Department recognized employee Jeremy Covington for his fast-acting response last spring during the Ceremonial Buffalo Hunt in Jackson, Wyo., which involved assisting fellow Game Warden Aaron Broncho during a life-threatening incident.
Captain Game Warden Tom Wadsworth talked about how they often come across dangerous scenarios while on patrol and how they have a lot of responsibility on their shoulders because they’re often the only ones that can be found when needed.
He said they represent the tribes in a very good way and he is proud to be a part of them and work with them for this many years.
Wadsworth explained during the buffalo hunt all the wardens were involved and were in the middle of the field dressing an animal when Broncho’s knife slipped and got him pretty good. Fortunately, Covington was there and between the both of them they addressed the situation and put a tourniquet on him.
Broncho lost a lot of blood and even the doctor said a few more minutes out there the situation could have turned for the worse.
Wadsworth said it shook their whole department. They were all worried about him and one of his worst fears as a supervisor is losing one of his guys.
The Fish & Game Department presented Covington with a plaque that read, “In appreciation the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes Fish & Game Enforcement Division recognizes Tribal Game Warden Jeremy Covington for his actions exhibited while medically helping and transporting his fellow Game Warden during a life-threatening incident in Jackson Hole, Wyo. on April 25, 2019. His quick actions and ability to stay calm in a highly stressful situation in genuine regard for preserving human life are exemplary traits that are highly regarded and valued within the department and Tribe. Thank you for your outstanding service.”
Covington was also presented with a buffalo robe for his efforts.
Director of Fish & Game Bret Haskett said they really appreciate Covington’s service as well as the rest of the staff too.
