Elk hunting extended on Fort Hall Reservation for Shoshone-Bannock tribal members

FORT HALL — On January 6, 2026 the Fort Hall Business Council, acting as the Tribes’ Fish & Game Commission, approved an extension of the 2025-2026 Big Game Season to provide additional subsistence hunting opportunities and help manage the abundant elk herd on the Reservation, for the following species and timeframes, specifically.

Each Shoshone-Bannock Tribal member may harvest up to two elk (either sex), on the Fort Hall Reservation through January 31, 2026, at the end of the legal shooting light.

The area curtailed to hunting for public and elk safety includes the land west of the Diversion Dam, south along Hiline Canal to the intersection of Sands Road, then south to Simplot Road, and west to I-15.

Hunters are reminded to practice ethical harvest and comply with all applicable regulations. For questions, contact Fish and Wildlife at 208-239-4550.
