FORT HALL — The Take Down Tobacco Fun Run/Walk on Friday, April 1 had over 50 participants for the event.
It was a brisk, breezy morning for the walk where participants started by registering at the Fitness Building.
Lexy Packer, a Tribal Health Education intern from Idaho State University, organized the event for National Take Down Tobacco Day. Participants had the choice to either walk or run the distance of one mile, two miles, or a 5k. The route began at Timbee Hall, down Hiline Road to complete the one-mile, or either down Hiline Road, up Simplot Road, across Mission and back down Agency for the two miles, or for the 5K down Hiline, up Simplot Road, across Eagle Road and down Agency.
Families bundle up for the walk.
Packer said, “We're super happy for the opportunity we have to raise awareness about the harms tobacco can do on your body.”
Furthermore, she explained tobacco is harmful to your body by harming every aspect of it.
Tribal Health offers a free Tobacco Cessation program that will provide two-week’s worth of patches or gum, or other aides to help one quit.
Smiling walkers.
Packer designed the free, light blue, long sleeved T-shirts with an image of four dream catchers and the wording “Tsaanga Naaka,” “We are Smoke Free” “Breathe Easy, Dream Big.” Blue tooth speakers were also given to the first 50 people who finished.
