FORT HALL — Fort Hall Extension hosted an annual gardening workshop series with their first class on Hanging Flower Baskets and House Plants on Monday, April 15.
Lending their expertise to about 20 participants were owners of J&J Florals of Blackfoot, Jessica Diaz and Jayme Albertson.
Participants learned to pot a houseplant and about its care. They selected from three different types, including a brasil philodendron, lemon lime philodendron and golden pothos.
J&J Florals provided plants and flowers for participants to choose from.
Diaz explained each of the plants had their own unique symbolisms and intentions for the grower and their home, for example the brasil philodendron symbolized health, nourishment, stability and abundance; the lemon lime philodendron stands for community, abundance, confidence and expression; and the golden pothos invite good luck, positivity, perseverance and strength.
They also put together 12 inch hanging baskets to take home put together from a selection of geraniums, verbena, and petunias.
All the chosen plants and hanging basket flowers are easy to take care of.
Families came out together to participate in the class.
The gardening workshops are meant to address lawn, pest and gardening needs. The presenters have worked with their topics for several years and have knowledge in many areas pertaining directly to horticulture.
The next workshop is April 22 on How to Garden Tree Selection and Planting and on April 29 on Weed, Gopher and Vole Control. Topics may be subject to change. The location is at the Fort Hall Housing Complex Conference Room from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
