FORT HALL — Shoshone-Bannock tribal member Chris Osborne also known as Crystlll Bluewater Sapphire was crowned Miss Gay Idaho 39, during the Mr. Miss & Mrs. Gay Idaho pageant on Saturday, May 22 at The Somwhere Bar in Garden City.
Crystlll is the first Shoshone-Bannock tribal member to win the title of Miss Gay Idaho. Blue spoke about preparing for the MGI pageant there was a few obstacles and the first one was not knowing if there was going to be a pageant because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Second events times and deadlines were cut short, instead of having months to prepare there was only a few weeks to fully decide and gather items. “One of my friend’s wife helped me with my talent, so I was pretty much hoping everything was going to fall into place.”
The event was very fast as it lasted just under an hour and a half. There was not many past title holders present to perform. The pageant theme was Rainbows and Unicorns. Crystlll said she has ran a total of 11 times for MGI and it was the twelfth time competing. She once competed for the title of Mister and there was a total of 3 contestants running for Miss Gay Idaho, 1 running for Mister and 7 vying for the title of Mrs.
As far as COVID restrictions Crystlll said they followed the six foot social distancing and the contestants all were apart from the pageant crowd until it came their time to be up on the main stage. Before the crowning Crystlll said that she felt different from the years before, “My thoughts, my feelings were I am doing this and I am going to come in here and win this,” she said. Crystlll would take time to herself and pray for the best with having positive thoughts before each category. During the crowning, she felt more positive with good thoughts and the feeling from start to finish from the crowd and judges was very supportive that gave her energy and when came time to crown the winner a feeling of shock came over her “I was like finally! I guess relief, there was no more heavy burden on my shoulders anymore because I finally got this title that I was after.” Crystlll plans on using the MGI platform to continue to bring more awareness to Suicide and Prevention as well as bullying within the community.
