FORT HALL — The Adult Protection Services Department is hosting a Meet & Greet event next Thursday, July 23 at 11:15 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on the north side of the old Fort Hall Casino parking lot.
The Meet and Greet will introduce the Adult Protection staff to the community. Staff members include Marcia Hall, who is the manager of the Adult Protection Services department, Valda Evening-Smith and Germaine Yazzie who are Adult Protection Services workers, and Lisa Kettler who is a part-time Adult Protection Service worker.
Hall said the event is to help remind elders and the community that their services are available and located at the old casino building. They’re hoping the event will bring smiles amongst friends and the community during the COVID-19 pandemic and that they would like to offer words of encouragement from visitors near and far — to show elders they care.
Elders that attend the event can expect to receive a specialty hand sanitizer that was made by local tribal members, social distancing signs, and information about how to keep safe during the times of COVID-19. “This will be the first of many more informational Meet and Greets that we are planning,” said Hall.
She went on to say, their plan is to host more meet and greet events every two weeks, and on a variety of topics. August 6 is the next planned date where they will be providing information about Medicaid and Medicare. It will lead to their “Taking a Stand Against Elder Abuse During the Covid-19”, an event in a bag, scheduled Thursday, August 20.
Hall advised she will be sending out registration forms and information about it. The event in a bag will include a meal from the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes Hotel & Event Center, custom made face mask, hat or visor, a soft side first aid kit, informational brochures, a powwow CD, and a DVD featuring speakers: Cynthia LaCounte, Dr. Jacque Gray, Joseph Brings Plenty Sr., and Carla Eben.
“This is a first for us, but we’re excited to be able to bring this event forward with a few modifications including social distancing of 6 feet, face masks, and having the lunch and event to go,” Hall said.
The program has a few program surveys available where those who complete it are eligible for a drawing for Eastern Idaho State Fair passes. For more information contact the program at 208-236-1073 or 1074.
