Fort Hall Business Council selects Special Awards at EISF Indian Booth

BLACKFOOT — The Fort Hall Business Council (FHBC) picked their Special Awards on September 4, recognizing outstanding entries from the Native American Department at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.

FHBC Chairwoman Donna Thompson took on the challenge of reviewing more than 700 entries before selecting her top choices on behalf of the Council. Her decision reflected the creativity, skill, and pride shown by Tribal artists.
This year’s winners include:

Chairwoman’s Choice Award: Mardel Butler for her beaded turquoise vest with a vibrant geometric pattern throughout.


Councilman’s Choice: Marietta Cortez’s beaded purse with rose design.

Councilman’s Choice Award: Marietta Cortez for her white beaded purse with a beautiful rose design and buckskin fringe.

Councilman’s Choice Award: Bobette Haskett for her Chinook salmon basket adorned with seashells and beadwork.

Chairwoman Thompson praised all the artists who submitted their work. “The craftsmanship in each entry was extraordinary; it was hard to pick. Our people continue to keep our traditions strong through art, and we are proud to showcase this talent at the Eastern Idaho State Fair,” she said.

Award winners received ribbons and cash prizes.

The FHBC extends appreciation to all participants who helped share their artistry at this year’s fair. Special thanks is also given to the Native American Department staff, who support the event and welcome visitors while dressed in their beautiful traditional regalia.
