POCATELLO — The Portneuf Cancer Center had a ribbon cutting for their new linear accelerator on November 19 with Fort Hall Business Council Chairman Lee Juan Tendoy blessing the event.
He told the crowd he hoped that one day they would find a cure for cancer and other diseases.
Christopher Galloway, oncology service line administrator, said the accelerator will be an addition to the already state-of-the-art services Portneuf Cancer Center provides and will benefit the people of Pocatello and positively affect receiving care in the community.
Dr. Michael Callahan expressed his gratitude to the attendees and said it was exciting as it’s been in the works for four years. He said the equipment will keep them at the cutting edge of treatment for cancers, particularly with radiation, and they’ll be able to do several different treatments they weren’t able to do before.

The True Beam linear accelerator is used to treat cancer wherever found in the body and offers flexible treatment options, advanced imaging, high-precision dosage control, streamlined treatments, and built-in safety features. Radiation therapists gave a demonstration of the equipment.
Fort Hall Business Council Secretary Ladd Edmo has been a patient at the Portneuf Cancer Center since his prostate cancer diagnosis in 2023. He has been positive and proactive in his cancer journey holding on to his faith to see him through.
Edmo said he wants to help others understand it’s good to get their checkups and to advocate for their health, especially in the specific areas they may have concerns about.
Also attending from Tribal Health & Human Services Director were Director Travis Martin and Norma Wadsworth.
