POCATELLO — The Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel’s “Nightmare Before Christmas” themed floats shined bright as they made their way through Downtown Pocatello taking home the Most Traditional Award.
The Pocatello Christmas Night Lights Parade is an annual event which kicks off the Christmas season and takes place the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Cesilio Silveira, Executive Marketing Director, said their idea was to design a unique float, something other than the usual “Elf,” “The Grinch,” or “Country Christmas” theme.
“We figured ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ would be different as this movie is considered a holiday classic for Halloween and Christmas,” he said.
Holly Kniffin waves as she helps carry the Most Traditional Award banner.
The Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel had three floats, the first, was decked in white lights with the Tim Burton character, “Oogie Boogie” waving to the crowd. The second float had Jack Skellington and Sally on a sleigh in a lit winter wonderland setting delivering giant presents. The third float was a lighted shuttle van.
Other popular characters from the film walked alongside and handed out full size candy bars and T-shirts to parade goers.
The Marketing and Maintenance teams for the Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel spent about a month planning the float and a week working on it in the evenings.
If you missed seeing them in Pocatello, don't worry because they plan to bring their “Nightmare Before Christmas” float to the Fort Hall Recreation Christmas Parade of Lights on December 10.
