MISSOULA, Mont. — Shoshone-Bannock tribal member Stormee Kipp was awarded Best Actor at the American Indian Film Festival season 46 for his role in the film Sooyii, where he stars as the lone survivor from his village that was decimated by an outbreak of smallpox set in the 18th Century.

The AIFF awards ceremony was November 5 and was done virtually because of COVID-19.

Kipp said he was glad he had the opportunity to make a powerful movie and he is scheduled to act in Predator 5, which will be out in theatres next summer.

The film Sooyii was shot on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation and also features an all Native acting cast. “Sooyii” is a Blackfoot term which means creatures or mysterious being and the film was shot entirely in the Blackfoot language.

The film was directed by Krisztian Kery and features other Native cast and crew members: Daniel Edmo, Pat “Judge” Hall, Cheyenne Gordon, Jesse Desrosier, Emmette Dusty Bull, Doug Fitzgerald, Michael Momberg, and Camden Croff.

Sooyii was screened November 20 as part of the Montana Film Festival that was sold out.
