Fort Hall community gathers for Buffalo Lodge Christmas Mini Powwow & contests

FORT HALL — The Fort Hall District Committee hosted a Christmas Mini Powwow on Sunday, December 21, bringing dancers, drummers, families, and community members together for a holiday gathering at Buffalo Lodge.

All dancers and drummers who participated in the powwow were paid. Holiday candy bags were distributed, and gifts were provided to elders ages 65 and older. Cakewalks and concessions were available throughout the afternoon.

Several holiday-themed contests were held during the event, with cash prizes awarded to participants with funds remaining from 477 Program Thanksgiving donation. In the Ugliest Christmas Sweater contest, first place went to Avery DeGarmo, second place to Tara Lucero, and third place to Lorraine Eschief. The best Gingerbread House contest awarded first place to Cookie Ariwite, second place to Janesse Diaz, and third place to Avery DeGarmo.

Consolation prizes were also given to Humble Coby and Sandra Platero. In the best Dressed Grinch contest, Cookie Ariwite earned first place.

Throughout the afternoon, youth and adult dancers participated in powwow dance sessions wearing traditional regalia, while drum groups provided songs for the dancers. Families and spectators gathered around the arena to watch the dancers and take part in the holiday gathering.
